Applicants should submit only one NursingCAS application per admission cycle. Courses may be in progress during the application cycle, however, all courses must be completed with a minimum grade of "C" by the first class day. Please see below for a list of required courses. All courses are subject to approval by the College of Nursing when the student applies for admission. By the application deadline, applicants must have completed a minimum of 40 prerequisite course credit hours of the 59 hours required.

Students may repeat prerequisite courses, however, grades earned from both the first and a second attempt will be used to determine the final GPA. Any additional attempts will not be considered. If a grade of "C" is not earned within 2 attempts, the student will not be eligible for admission. This requirement can be met by having completed two years of the same foreign language in high school, by completing two semesters of the same foreign language at the university level or by demonstrating proficiency in a foreign language by examination.

If a course is not listed in the matrix or is listed as "TRNS" transfer by title , please contact an adviser to identify the appropriate course of action to determine course transferability. It is strongly recommended that applicants present a GPA above 3.

If a grade of "C" is not earned within two attempts, the student will not be eligible for admission. When deciding to repeat a course, consider the impact the course will make on your GPA. English, history, etc. Because health care providers are entrusted with the health, safety and welfare of patients, have access to controlled substances and confidential information, and operate in settings that require the exercise of good judgment and ethical behavior, criminal background checks are required of all applicants.

Prior criminal convictions may cause one to be ineligible for licensure as a registered nurse RN. Applicants will be responsible for obtaining a background check and paying appropriate fees to be fingerprinted for the Texas Board of Nursing. The board will provide applicants with notification of their eligibility or not for future RN licensure following their successful completion of a nursing degree. Results are typically returned within six weeks of fingerprinting, if there is no record of criminal history.

In order to apply for licensure as an RN, students must declare any eligibility issues with the Texas Board of Nursing. The board will notify applicants who may not meet conditions for future RN licensure after results of the fingerprinting are received. Individuals who have significant criminal history will likely be ineligible for licensure. If there is any history of criminal charges, alcohol or drug abuse or mental health concerns, students must file a declaratory order petition to the Board of Nursing.

The time required to review a petition can be lengthy so students are encouraged to begin the process early in the application process. Those programs that do offer online programs still require students to spend large amounts of time on campus to fulfill clinical and practical requirements. Generally, students are required to complete about credit hours to graduate from the ABSN program. Out of credit hours, half of it must be completed in prior education.

The curriculum of the program slightly varies from college to college but the general outline is fundamentally the same. If you have completed the CNA program or LPN program already, you can shave some credits off from the mandatory credit hours that most colleges require for graduation. As an applicant to the accelerated BSN program, you will be expected to meet all the requirements for entry in theoretical and practical nursing courses.

Requirements for clinical components include immunizations, laboratory tests for contagious diseases, physical examination, CPR certification, drug screening, and a criminal background check prior to the start of clinical enrollment. The prerequisites for the accelerated program are no different than those required for BSN applicants including a minimum of 2 semesters of physiology and anatomy, as well as some credits in biology, microbiology, psychology, developmental psychology, statistics, biostatistics, chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.

Most programs arrange to offer a range of pre-requisite courses back to back just prior to enrollment to allow students to meet those requirements they may not have completed in their previous undergraduate coursework.

Applicants to the program will need to present transcripts for prior college work with a minimum GPA of at least 2. You may be required to attend a personal interview as part of the rigorous screening process that is mandated by the intense nature of the accelerated program.

Here are the common prerequisites that must be completed prior to joining the ABSN program. Each course must be completed with a grade C or higher Some colleges require you to complete the science subjects with a minimum of B- and you must have at least 2. Please also keep in mind that prerequisites courses have an expiration date. Most colleges won't accept prerequisite course completed more than 7 years ago.

The Accelerated Second Degree nursing pathway is designed for students who have a baccalaureate degree in another field and wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This is a full-time, limited-access nursing pathway and is structured sequentially. Admission is competitive.

Students can only apply for one campus at a time. Students that are not selected for admission are permitted to apply again for a future cycle. Denied students interested in a future cycle are required to update their term of entry with USF Admissions within one calendar year of the original application and submit a new NursingCAS application when it becomes available. Students cannot switch campuses once admitted to the Accelerated Second Degree nursing pathway.

All admitted nursing students are required to complete a background check, immunization verification, drug screening, and more. Additionally, students will be required to provide proof of current health insurance.

Admitted students will be provided with the steps to complete this process. Applicants who have attended, but not completed, another registered nursing program must provide a letter of good standing from the Dean of Nursing, or their appointed designee, that addresses the potential for success in a BSN program, safety in providing nursing care, interpersonal communication skills, and other information the campus director deems important.

This letter should be uploaded to the NursingCAS application before submitting.
